Join trip leader and expert birder Tim Rodenkirk for this field trip in Coos County. We will focus on looking for early neotropical migrants, especially the Calliope Hummingbird. The Calliope only regularly occurs in this area during the last week of April, if weather is nice. Displaying Calliope males can often be found which is an incredible treat!

Meet at Sturdivant Park in Coquille at 5am. We’ll carpool and caravan for the long drive (1.5 hrs) up the South Fork Coquille River, stopping to experience the “dawn chorus” enroute to Eden Valley. The road is paved but windy and bumpy so it is a slow drive.

Bring a warm jacket for a cool start, good hiking boots for walking around meadows in the wet grass, plus lunch, water, snacks, treats, and of course good binocs.

This trip will likely not get back to Coquille until mid-afternoon and is very weather-dependent.
